“I think that that one of the biggest hurdles to overcome when you get diagnosed with breast cancer is the fear – fear of what is ahead of you and what this journey is going to look like. My nurse navigator told me about Pink, Powerful and Perky and, at first, I was hesitant to come. I didn’t want to go to a support group where everyone was down and depressed and talked about their personal horror stories. How wrong I was! I am SO thankful that I made myself go because I have met the most wonderful and supportive women and have learned so much about what to expect. You immediately share a connection with these ladies and everyone is so welcoming. It’s also a place where you can voice your fears without judgement. We want to make sure that our family and friends are doing ok as we navigate this cancer journey but it’s great to have a place where you can totally let down your guard and people truly get it. Yes, there are serious issues we all face, but there is so much fun and laughter when we get together and no subject is off limits. We “keep it real” for whatever topic is being discussed. We have had speakers on mental health wellness, massage, nutrition, yoga, chiropractic adjustments, essential oils, and so many interesting subjects. I am just so grateful for this sisterhood and for the monthly gatherings, and I consider it one of the beautiful silver linings to my diagnosis.”
